Seeing something that you would ordinarily pass by without notice

Dead birds are something I would ordinarily pass by.

The pictures are of Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team (COASST) Trainees measuring a bird foot and wing.

The COASST program partners citizen scientists (community) with scientists to study the behavior and ecology of marine birds in their natural habitats. Each volunteer conduct monthly surveys of a stretch of coastline usually 1 to 4 kilometers in length. Each bird carcass is measured, identified, photographed, marked and left in place. The findings are reported back to the UW.
